How to Use Chopsticks

It takes practice to learn how to use chopsticks proficiently so don’t give up too quickly. Hold a chopstick between your thumb and middle finger so that the chopstick rests on the joint at the base of your thumb and on the joint of your middle finger nearest the fingertip. Don’t let the chopstick touch your forefinger.
Take the other chopstick also between your thumb and forefinger but with this chopstick resting against your thumb tip and the top of the chopstick resting your forefinger pad. Keep the chopstick tips parallel. Keep the first chopstick still while you move the second chopstick back and forth, touching the stationary chopstick.
Practice holding the chopstick and then moving the second chopstick in a grabbing motion. Now try this holding a piece of food firmly between the two chop sticks. Once you can easily pick up pieces of food practice moving it to your mouth. If you are eating in a traditional Asian restaurant, be courteous in using chopsticks and do not spear your food. Some people have a difficult task in learning chopstick techniques and if it seems to be a real struggle for you, try resting the second chopstick along your forefinger to steady the chopstick procedure.
